After considerable thought I regret to announce that I have decided I will not be able to run for a position on St. John’s city council this year.
I began campaigning early and enthusiastically in the pre-election period; thank you to those many Ward 2 Residents and others with whom I have had great conversations and from whom I learned much. Along the way, an unexpected health issue arose that has not yet been definitively diagnosed. Until my physicians provide me with a clean bill of health, it is not fair to offer myself for election, or to potentially sit on Council, unless I can do it to the very best of my abilities. At this point I cannot confident of that.
To those who have encouraged me to run and offered support in various ways, I want to express my sincere thanks. Also, I want to assure everyone that I will continue to be involved in community activities and speak out on public issues as I have done in the past. This is my home; it’s where I live, and I will continue to work to make it even better. Again thank you to those who have encouraged me to enter this race; sadly, this is just not the right time.
